The airline was founded in 1989 under the name Kanfei HaEmek and changed its name to Israir in 1996. Israir is currently the third largest airline in Israel after El Al and Arkia Israel Airlines. The airline originally only offered national flights, but from 1999 it expanded its route network for international flights.
